Travelers face slow moving as they head to Sierra
News

BLUE CANYON, CA - Traffic was nearly at a standstill approaching Dutch Flat as people headed to the Sierra for the weekend and holiday Friday night.

As long as you were moving, the drive didn't seem so bad, but that level of enthusiasm among drivers was rare for most of the way.

"It kind of is worth it once you get there, but the drive is a drag," Trevor Smith said.

Chain controls were put in place for drivers traveling on eastbound I-80. With traffic at a halt much of the way, many drivers decided to chain up even before they were required to do so.

"To tell you the truth, this is my first time putting chains on," Pao said.

"I don't have a 4-wheel-drive vehicle, so I got to chain up now," Ken Peter said.

Despite the rough ride, most agreed now was the best time to get the hard part out.
