According to sheriff's Lt. Mark Reed, Marquise Xavier Montgomery, 23, of Elverta was arrested after officials determined through DNA analysis that he was possibly the father of the victim's child.
Montgomery, who was an employee of the care facility where the woman resided, had not been working at the center for some time, said Reed.
The executive director of the care home, Michelle Payne, issued the following statement, in part, regarding the development of an arrest:
Today the Placer County Sheriff's Department announced it has a suspect in custody in the year-old case that involved a person we support.
From the beginning, we have cooperated fully with investigators by immediately reporting the crime and providing all necessary information to assist them throughout the course of the investigation.
Our primary concern is and has always been the safety of the people we support.
We ask you to please respect the privacy of the individuals we support.
Montgomery was being held on $150,000 bail. His first court appearance was set for Friday in Placer County Court in Auburn.
