Powerball coming to Calif. | News

SACRAMENTO, CA - Lottery players in California who want to get in on the huge Powerball lottery such as Wednesday's $588 million game will soon have their chance.

Starting April 8, 2013, Powerball sales will begin in California, the California Lottery Commission decided. The first drawing will be April 10, 2013.

According to a lottery commission news release, the $2 Powerball is played much like the Mega Millions game. Players choose five numbers from 1 to 59 and one red Powerball number from 1 to 35. Players can choose their own numbers or select a quick pick. Drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 7:59 p.m. PST.

Powerball pool closure occurs promptly at 7 p.m. PST each draw day.

A portion of Powerball money goes to state education and social services programs with the majority paid out to winners.

California becomes the 43rd state to participate in the Powerball lottery.
