Skiing accident claims Alpine Meadows instructor | News

ALPINE MEADOWS, CA - A ski instructor at Alpine Meadows resort has died after she struck a submerged rock, injuring her brain and neck, during a ski run last Saturday.

The resort said Annalise Kjolhede, 24, passed away Tuesday night after being hospitalized in Reno.

According to a post by her mother on the CaringBridge website, Kjolhede was skiing with two friends when the accident occurred. She hit a bump and went down, hitting her head and face, and was partially buried in snow. They dug her out and began CPR. EMT-trained skiers and ski patrol at the resort that day for pre-season training also aided.

Kjolhede was wearing a ski helmet.

The resort was closed Saturday; it is not scheduled to open until Dec. 7.

Alpine Meadows said Kjolhede had been with them one year and worked in the children's ski school. They issued the following statement, in part:

Her [Annalise's] outgoing personality, passion for working with kids and friendly nature will be remembered and missed by all of her friends and colleagues here at Squaw and Alpine.  Her passing is a tragic loss for our team and community.
