8 teens hurt in rollover crash on I-80 in Auburn | News
AUBURN, CA - Eight young people were injured, at least one critically, when their SUV overturned on eastbound Interstate 80 in Auburn just before 1 p.m. Friday.
California Highway Patrol Officer David Montijo said, according to the preliminary investigation, the teen behind the wheel was entering the freeway from the Elm Avenue on-ramp when she lost control and hit a big rig. The SUV rolled over.
The injuries to the occupants ranged from minor to major, according to emergency responders.
The students were reportedly on their lunch break.
Some of them were not wearing seatbelts, Montijo said.
There was no indication drugs or alcohol was involved, he added.
Traffic was bottled up for approximately an hour on the freeway while an air ambulance landed to transport the most seriously injured youth.
