Cut cable disrupts phone service in Amador County
News

AMADOR COUNTY, CA - A cut fiber optic cable in Amador County has residents unreachable on their landlines and, in many cases, cell phones.

A car crashed into a utility pole about 5 miles north of Lockeford on Elliot Road, knocking it down around Noon Thursday. AT&T spokesperson John Britton said when the power company replaced the pole, they inadvertently hit the underground fiber optic cable, which connects from the Jackson central office back to the central network.

Amador County resident Rhe McLaughlan said the phone service disruption doesn't allow people call 911.

Customers in Jackson, Ione, Sutter Creek and Plymouth were affected by the cut cable. Britton said people in the area can call within the affected area; however, people cannot call out or receive calls from people outside of that area.

Britton said AT&T will have the cable fixed by Friday; crews are replacing 100 feet of fiber optic cable around midnight.
