AUBURN, CA - Two Castro Valley men were arrested in Auburn on Tuesday afternoon after ramming a stolen car into two separate patrol cars.
According to Sheriff Edward Bonner with the Placer County Sheriff's Office, deputies were following a car they determined to be stolen on Galena Drive at about 1 P.M.
The driver, 21-year-old Joseph L. Engel, then swerved into opposing traffic and struck a patrol car head-on. After the collision Engel attempted to reverse the vehicle and rammed into another patrol car. Two other detective's vehicles were also struck by Engel.
Bonner said Engel was able to drive a short distance and then he and his passenger, 20-year-old Daniel Collins, ran from the car.
After a short-lived foot pursuit, both suspects were caught and taken into custody.
Deputies investigated an address that the men were associated with and found a second stolen car there. The two cars were reported stolen from Penryn and Davis.
Engel and Collins were booked into the Placer County Jail.
Engel was booked on charges of vehicle theft, assault with a deadly weapon, evading, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of burglary tools.
Collins was booked on charges of possession of stolen property and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
The bail for Engel and Collins was set at $25,000 and $5,000 respectively.
No injuries resulted from the incident.
