Neighbor arrested in death of elderly Yuba City woman | Crime

YUBA CITY, CA - Police arrested a next door neighbor in connection to the death of an elderly woman late Friday night.

Michael Patrick Alexander, 20, was arrested for the murder of Leola Shreves, 94, Yuba City Police spokesperson Shawna Pavey said.

Shreves was found in her home on the 500 block of Park Avenue Thursday by a relative, after not hearing from her for a few days.

Police believe Alexander had a conversation with Shreves, and then sometime late that night broke into her home and launched a violent and savage attack on the woman, Pavey said.

Investigators found evidence at Shreves' home that linked Alexander to the murder; Pavey said the motive behind the attack was "financial gain."

Alexander was booked into Sutter County Jail for murder, robbery, burglary, aggravated assault and mayhem.
