Rescued Nevada City bear cubs returned to nature | Animal Lovers

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA - Two bear cubs rescued from a wildfire near Nevada City last summer were returned to the wild Thursday.

An environmental scientist with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife was moving the hibernating pair to a den within 75 mniles of Nevada City, past Truckee, according to Tom Millham, spokesman for Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care. That den could be a hollowed-out tree or dog igloo where the cubs will continue to hibernate until spring.

Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care in South Lake Tahoe took in the cubs last July where they were cared for until Thursday. They were two of 10 abandoned or injured cubs brought to the facility last year, a record, according to Millham. He added there were also six bobcats, another record, who received care from the center in 2012.
